8th Grade Math: This is an activity-based course in which students will participate in math lab activities. Students will be required to participate in all class work and activities. This course will cover topics such as algebra, geometry, number sense, measurement, discrete math, probability, and statistics.
Materials needed for 8th Grade Math:
Folder
Pencils
2 Dry erase markers
Pens (for correction only)
4 spiral notebooks (1 for each quarter)

Algebra: This is a high school level course taught to a select group of middle school students who have been tested and placed into Algebra. Algebra is a course that is designed to challenge students and broaden their understanding of mathematics. This course will cover the following: equations and inequalities, exponents, quadratic equations, polynomials, and factoring. Students need to maintain an average of a B (83%) to remain in Algebra. Students will be removed from Algebra at quarter or semester time if a B is not maintained. Students completing Algebra will be enrolled in Honors Geometry as freshman.
Daily Attendance is critical to success in very activity a student participates in whether it is school, athletics, or a future job. If a student misses even one day of school they will be behind the day they return. Once a student returns to school it generally takes a minimum of two class periods to get them completely caught up.
Homework Students need to include the following on each assignment:
Label each assignment with name, date, hour, assignment number, and page number
ALL WORK must be shown
Assignments must be graded HONESTLY
Assignments must be turned in on time
Absent Work In the event of an excused absence, late work will be accepted the day the student returns to school. Students will have as many days to make up any assignments as they were absent. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO TURN IN LATE ASSIGNMENTS AND MAKE UP ANY MISSING TESTS OR QUIZZES DUE TO AN ABSENCE.
Students missing class due to a school-sponsored activity will have to pick up the assignment PRIOR to the activity. The assignment needs to be completed the next day the student returns to class.
Writing Assignments:
It is a district goal to incorporate writing assignments in every subject, including math. There will be writing assignments that will require students to use their writing skills to explain, support, and describe mathematical ideas and concepts.
Notebooks/ Folders:
It is the responsibility of the student to keep good notes on a daily basis. Students will be given labsheets and worksheets at the beginning of a module and will be expected to keep all materials in their binder until the end of the module. Students should not throw away any materials from a module until the module is completed.
Extra Credit:
Extra credit will be given on occasion. Extra credit is above and beyond everyday homework and will not be used to replace missing homework assignments. Students need to have ALL homework assignments turned in before they are allowed to do extra credit activities. Points for extra credit will vary depending upon the project.
Test and Quizzes:
Students can expect a test or quiz every week.
